The Invisible Wounds

The sounds of the night in Beirut’s southern suburbs and the villages of the south have shifted from the hum of city life to the terrifying whistle of constant bombardment. For Lebanon’s children, this isn’t just a fleeting moment of fear; it is a sustained assault on their psychological development. With over 350,000 children displaced, many for the second or third time in just two years, the trauma is cumulative and deep-seated. Caregivers in Dahiyeh and the Bekaa report that children are unable to sleep, experiencing severe night terrors, and showing signs of developmental regression. This is a humanitarian emergency that cannot be solved by food and blankets alone; it requires specialised mental health intervention to prevent an entire generation from being defined by their trauma.

At UK Care for Children, we witness the invisible scars left by the Lebanon crisis every day. When a child loses their home, they lose their fundamental sense of safety. When that loss is repeated, the damage to their emotional wellbeing can be profound and permanent. Our charity is prioritising psychological first aid and long-term counselling for children currently living in overcrowded collective shelters. By providing aid that targets mental health and emotional recovery, we are helping these young survivors process the unthinkable. We believe that every child deserves a future free from the haunting echoes of war, but we need your urgent support to make that a reality.
