Empowering Poor Farmers

Asad, a 52-year-old Palestinian refugee residing in Biqaa, Lebanon, dreamed of turning his passion for farming into a sustainable livelihood for his family. Despite his decade-long experience in farming, he lacked the capital to start his own project. However, through the Empowering Poor Farmers project launched by UK Care for Children, Asad received a transformative opportunity.

“I’ve always dreamed of turning my passion for farming into a sustainable livelihood for my family,” Asad shared, reflecting on his aspirations.

With support from the project, Asad received essential resources, including 4000 tomato seedlings, 400 mini sprinklers, fertilizers, and equipment. These provisions enabled him to kickstart his farming project and nurture his dream into reality.

“After years of uncertainty, receiving this support was like seeing the first sprout after a long winter,” Asad remarked, expressing gratitude for the lifeline provided by the project.

Two months later, Asad harvested a bountiful crop of tomatoes, surpassing his expectations. With determination and pride, he sold the produce, generating income to provide for his family’s needs and save for future planting seasons.

“Each tomato harvested was a symbol of resilience and hope,” Asad reflected, highlighting the transformative impact of empowerment and support.
