Qurbani: Honour the legacy of sacrifice and uplift refugee families

As Eid al-Adha approaches, Muslims around the world prepare to honour the profound legacy of Prophet Ibrahim (peace be upon him), who demonstrated unwavering obedience to Allah by his willingness to sacrifice his son. This act of devotion is commemorated through Qurbani, the ritual sacrifice of livestock, symbolising submission to Allah and compassion towards those in need.
Qurbani is performed during the days of Eid al-Adha, specifically from the 10th to the 13th of Dhul Hijjah (likely to be 6-9th June 2025, depending on Eid sightings).
It is an act of worship that reflects the spirit of giving and community. The meat from the sacrificed animal is traditionally divided into three parts: one-third for the family, one-third for relatives and friends, and one-third for the poor and needy. This distribution ensures that everyone, regardless of their financial situation, can partake in the celebrations of Eid.
Supporting refugee families through Qurbani
In Lebanon, refugee families often face dire circumstances, with limited access to necessities, including nutritious food. For many, meat is a luxury they cannot afford.
By performing your Qurbani in Lebanon, you provide these families with a rare opportunity to enjoy a hearty meal during Eid, bringing joy and a sense of normalcy to their lives.
Your Qurbani donation helps us distribute fresh meat to those who need it most, ensuring that the blessings of Eid reach every corner of the community.
How to perform Qurbani
- Eligibility: Qurbani is obligatory for every sane, adult Muslim who possesses wealth above the nisab threshold.
- Timing: The sacrifice should be performed after the Eid prayer on the 10th of Dhul Hijjah and before sunset on the 13th.
- Animal selection: The animals should meet specific criteria regarding age and health. For example, sheep and goats should be at least one year old, while cows and camels should be at least two and five years old, respectively.
- Distribution: As mentioned, the meat is divided into three parts to benefit the family, friends, and those in need.
